Competitive Events

• Sauerkraut Competition • 12-1pm
• Who makes the number-one Sauerkraut in Ontario? We'll find out at Oktoberfest! Bring your best sauerkraut, pre-cooked, in two 1-litre containers. The public as well as our judges will be sampling each to determine the winner. Samples will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis.
• Formal Judging on Sat. People's choice on Sunday.
• Sauerkraut will be judged on four elements: Appearance, Aroma, Taste and Overall Impression.
• Sauerkraut may be dropped off at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds on Friday, October 1st, or Saturday Oct 2nd in the morning. If you need to arrange an earlier dropoff, please contact Laura at laura@beaus.ca.
• Pre-Registration: Participants must pre-register by September 15th by emailing laura@beaus.ca
• Prizes: Judges and People's Choice award is $250 Beau's gift certficate plus a snazzy medal and your name on the Oktoberfest Trophy
• Malt Sack Races • 1pm-2pm
  • It works like this....Step 1: There's a hole in the bag. Step 2: You put your feet in the bag. Step 3: You hop your way to the finish line.
  • Race classes included the fastest Under 10, 10-Adult and Adults.
  • Registration: Sign up on the day at the Activity Area by 12:45. Entry is Free
  • Prizes: Kids win a gift certificate to Saunder's Farm and a cool Beau's medal. Adults win a $50 Beau's gift certificate and a cool Beau's medal.
• Sausage-Eating Contest • 2pm-3pm
  • Hey! From the racks and stacks, it's the best on wax! How 'bout another double-golden-oldie-twin-spin-sound-sandwich from K-L-A-M in Portland? Iiiiiiit's...Boss! That’s right. It's an olde fashioned, mouth stuffin’ gut bustin’ sausage eatin’ competition.
  • Pre-Registration: There is limited participation so please signup in advance by emailing laura@beaus.ca
  • Prizes: 1st prize $250 gift certificate to the brewery, 2nd prize $50 gift certificate to the brewery, 3rd prize $20 gift certificate to the brewery.
  • Bonus fun for spectators: Make a $2 donation and pick your favourite to win. Pick the winner and get a $10 gift certificate to the brewery
• Keg Toss • 3pm-4pm
  • Muster your strength and show that keg who’s the boss! That’s right, pitch a keg further than your competitors and you’ll win bragging rights and cool prizes.
  • Registration: Sign up by 2:45 on the day of, but space is limited so please sign up early to avoid disappointment. Entry is free.
  • Prizes: Men’s champion & Women’s Champion each win $150 gift certificate plus a cool beau’s medal

• Bus pickup location is behind Perkins Restaurant (1130 St. Laurent Blvd at Coventry), right beside St. Laurent Shopping Centre and within close proximity of the St. Laurent Transitway top.
• Buses will depart from Ottawa continuously between 10am and 1pm.
• Buses will return from Vankleek Hill between 6pm and 10pm.
