Beau’s Celebrates every week in FeBREWary with a Beer

January 26, 2012

5 Beer Releases in 4 Weeks, Collaborative Brews, & Events in VKH, Ottawa, TO are Highlights

OTTAWA — (Jan. 26, 2012) The month of February is getting changed to FeBREWary this year for Beau’s All Natural Brewery and its fans, to highlight the events, beer releases and guests who will keep things interesting in the upcoming month. Beau’s will launch one beer per week for the month, beginning with an early return of Beaver River, the hoppy and delicious spring seasonal IPA, on Feb. 2. Visitors to the brewery Saturday Feb. 4 can also enjoy the Champlain Winter Carnival, which runs the same weekend.

The following two weeks in FeBREWary will highlight Beau’s collaborative beer projects. On Feb. 9 Beau’s will release Mates with Dates, an experimental fruit beer (brown ale with dates added, and double-fermented) co-brewed with British brewer Alex Barlow. Barlow will be on hand to celebrate the release with beer tasting events in Vankleek Hill, Ottawa, and Toronto Feb. 8-10: more details to follow shortly.

Beau’s “coffee + beer” collaboration with Ottawa’s Bridgehead Coffee returns in 2012 with a new edition of last year’s popular brew: WinterBrewed, an amber ale infused with fair trade, organic Guatemalan coffee, comes out Feb. 16. This year Beau’s will also release a second coffee beer for the more adventurous: Collabrrrewator is a doppelbock with more than 150 pounds of three different coffees added to create a strong, big-flavoured beer. Both beers will be available at the brewery and online for home delivery beginning Feb 16. Guests who come out to Vankleek Hill Saturday Feb. 18 to try WinterBrewed will be treated to outdoor activities to include beer taffy on snow (non-alcoholic), a snowman building contest, ice skating, parking lot hockey, and more. Bridgehead will host an evening WinterBrewed launch party at their Sparks St. location to wrap up the last weekend of WinterLude in Ottawa, Saturday Feb. 18 from 8-10 pm.

The final Saturday of FeBREWary is themed for Greener Futures Members Appreciation, and will see the release of the newest installment in the Barrel Aged Beer Series, a bourbon barrel-aged version of Beau’s Roggen (rye) beer from Halloween, Mr. Hyde. A scant 400L of this beer has been produced, and it is available for sale only to Greener Future members. Current and new members who pick up their barrel-aged Mr. Hyde Saturday Feb. 25 will get their names and membership number engraved on a special-edition souvenir glass as a special thanks from Beau’s. Chosen by the Globe and Mail as one of the “10 Ideas that Changed Food in 2011,” Greener Futures is a beer club/co-operative. Club members are entitled to 30 barrel aged beers over 3 years, at a membership fee of $300. The fees will be used to install solar panels on the 30,000 sq. ft roof of the brewery.
