Summer • Out of Season!
In Eastern Ontario summer season is festival season. There are so many festivals from June through August it is truly unbelievable. We were approached by the Ottawa Jazz Festival in our second year of operation. They had heard good things about our beer and were looking for something interesting to offer at their festival that would appeal to 170,000 barret-wearing, clarinet appreciating fans. While they loved the idea of a local, all natural brewery, they were worried that they might get complaints if there were only one beer on offer. Once we found out how much beer they needed for the festival, we quickly offered to brew up a special batch for them and Festivale was born.
Festivale is a perfect compliment to LugTread and a wonderful summer beer. It is light in body and very crisp while maintaining an assertive hop character and wonderful caramel maltiness.
History & Style
Festivale is our interpretation of the Alt beer style. Alt is German for old, and the beer is called this because it is one of the few remaining ales in Germany (not because of freshness concerns). The history of the style is really kind of cool. Check out these links for a more detailed history than we could possibly give: http://www.germanbeerinstitute.com/altbier.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altbier
